Diablo II Expansion Pack: Injuries Await?
Thursday, June 28, 2001 @ 12.28 CDT

I played a few hours of Diablo II the other night just to remember what it's like. I haven't played it in a long time. It's (still) a lot of fun.

But ever since, my right index finger hurts.

Because you click-click-click a lot in Diablo II.

Especially when your character is a weakling and has to swing his crummy stick over and over to kill even small things. Ugh.

So now, I face a dilemma. The Diablo II Expansion Set is available now, supposedly. It's a foregone conclusion that I'll buy it, but if I buy it now, will my finger just fall off? Or explode?

(Judging from the numbness, falling off seems more likely.)

Julie says, "Try clicking with your middle finger." Good idea, but I have a wheel mouse, and shifting fingers to the left on the mouse is like shifting fingers to the left on the keyboard and trying to type. Possible, but impractical.

I might go buy it, but not play it for a while. We have Julie's parents visiting this weekend, and we have to do the customary dashing about like mad cleaning and finishing up little decor jobs that we always do when company's coming. This must come first.

But if I get it, I'll install it. And if I install it, I'll want to run it just to look at it. And if I run it, I'll create a character from one of the new classes. And if I have a character, I'll play it.

It's tough being a computer game dork sometimes.
