1025 Hours FREE!

As much as I appreciate the generous offer to get 1025 free hours of America Online (within 45 days of my initial sign-on) using the CDs they constantly send in the mail, I don't think I'm ready to sign up just yet.

(That's 22 hours, 46 minutes, and 40 seconds of AOL per day if you want to use all the free time. I wonder why 1000 hours wasn't enough.)

They're not sure when I'm going to change my mind, so they send me a CD about once every couple of months just in case. This bothers me, because the DVD-sized cases they use are #5 plastic, which my recycling service doesn't accept. And I hate throwing things away.

Today, I got another CD in the mail. I decided to call and let them know that I will never change my mind, and I could do without all the CDs.

It turns out you can call the toll-free number on the CD and opt-out. You have to give your name and address, but supposedly, that's the end of it, even if the recipient listed on your CDs is "CURRENT RESIDENT."

So today is Day 0 of The Age of No AOL CDs at my house. I wonder how long it will last.

At least 1025 hours?
