Meteors!
Tuesday, November 19, 2002 @ 12.43 CST

It was cold, and there was too much light from both the full moon in the west and the hulking metropolis to our east, but we went outside around 4:30 this morning and saw a nice show thanks to the Leonid meteor shower.

Clouds rolled in yesterday afternoon, and it rained in the early evening, so I was afraid we were in for a repeat of last year's cloud party. Around 3:50 am, I went out the front door and immediately saw a meteor in the mostly clear sky. Shortly after that, I saw the biggest meteor I've ever seen, a beautiful bright streak across a large portion of the sky that took a full three seconds to fade. It was then that I decided that I'd be justified in waking Julie and dragging her outside.

We only spent around ten minutes out on the deck, but they were some mighty pretty minutes. I'm certain that if I lived in a more rural environment, I'd be an amateur astronomer.

Pearl was eager to be pointed in the direction of whatever was causing us to be awake so she could kill it and go back to sleep. Very protective.
