This past weekend, we drove to Memphis for Independence Day and Julie's birthday. Friday, I drove over to Little Rock to see my family for the day, then drove back. I think I drove around 1,000 miles in all. This is on top of a trip to Louisville the weekend before.
I kept reading advertisements on the back of tractor trailers from the various trucking companies saying that experienced long-haul drivers can make roughly $0.40 a mile. I briefly considered making a career change. After I did the math it didn't seem so promising, but as the odometer kept turning I found myself thinking about it. I should be getting paid for all these miles!
Luckily, when I woke up Monday I had an aching back.
How do those guys drive so much?
This coming weekend, we're staying home. And if we go out somewhere, I'm going to make Julie drive.
