I recently bought computer guts. I put the guts together a few days ago and I'm happy to say it's a success thus far. I only smelled smoke once during the midnight to 3:00am assembly operation. I didn't hurt myself. And it works.
I guess I could have purchased a complete computer, but I like building one for myself. First, it lets me tinker with hardware, which I don't do as much of these days. It's like a Lego set, but one with 400 watts running through it. [SFX: manly grunt]
Also, I like getting exactly what I want, and avoiding what I don't. I just don't need a 56Kbps modem. I have one in a box in my closet should the need arise.
It's nice to have a fast computer again.
If the mood strikes, I might write a bit of technical detail in the Projects section sometime soon. Some people actually care about that sort of thing.
"Man, this new computer is really nice."
