I hate it when text editors litter dozens of vile backup copies of the files I'm editing.
The current target of my loathing is NetBeans, which likes to backup every file I modify with a file of the same name ending in ~.
I'm sure you can turn off this behavior, but I am too intimidated by the ultra-complex maze of absurdity that "Tools: Options.." produces.
Luckily, it's much easier for me to add *~ to .cvsignore. This eliminates my main problem with this filth, which occurs when I'm checking things into CVS. A bunch of superfluous nonsense results when CVS hits all these ~ files it doesn't know about. All of which I consider totally unimportant.
Ugh.
