Little kids all over America like to pretend that they're up to bat at the World Series, their team's tied or behind in Game Seven and it's the bottom of the 9th inning with two outs and the bases are loaded. They get a hit (usually a home run) and their team wins.
That's exactly what happened last night. Yay for the Arizona Diamondbacks, the four year old expansion team with lots of veteran players who deserved to win.
It was an amazing World Series, full of great moments.
It's really OK that the Yankees didn't win. They've been a baseball team about as long as there's been a State of Arizona. They've won the World Series four of the last six years. They played really well in this series (except for Saturday night) and had some great wins in New York for the home crowd. The nation sympathizes with New York, but that doesn't mean that the Yankees have to win.
For the first time in several weeks, the CNN.com front page picture doesn't have anything to do with anthrax, Afghanistan, or September 11. I think that's a welcome change, if only for today.
Thank you, World Series
