Things to remember

Some things I think are important to remember in the near future:
- The people who died are gone. We love them, and we hate the way they died. But they are gone.
- The people they've left behind need our help. We have already responded as a nation, and we must continue to do so.
- Finding and destroying the "people" who did this won't bring anyone back. But if destroying those responsible prevents this from happening again, we must do it. All civilized nations in the world will help with this. We shouldn't do this out of a sense of revenge, but justice.
- The vast majority of Arabs and Muslims in the United States and the world in general are absolutely horrified. Striking out at random against innocent people because they belong to an ethnic or religious group is as much a terrorist action as any other. Seeing people in the West Bank dance in the street and hand out candy makes us furious, but we can't let that turn us into something less than we are.
- It's OK to cry. It's OK to pray. It's OK to be angry.
- If we all sit on our couches watching CNN, they win. Get out, get back to work, do something productive with the angry energy you have. Continuing the American way of life is the best thing any American citizen can do.
- If you didn't vote for President Bush and you have deeply-held views which caused that to be the case, fine. But he's our President, and he needs our support.
- If you are flying the flag of the United States outside your house (as we are), show respect and follow the rules.
