Music - Demonscreamin' (1995)

The University of Memphis Music Department used to do this thing called the Composer's Cauldron at Halloween which had a bunch of outrageous music that was meant to put you in the mood.

I decided to make some noise for the show. A couple of hours passed, and the result is called Demonscreamin'.

This recording is from an old cassette tape I found. It's got some hiss on it, but this was before stuff like CD-RWs and MP3's. I have a DAT someplace that I could probably get a better recording from if I had a DAT player. Not that you need a better recording of this.

instrumentation

I made this with my Korg 01/Wfd synthesizer, Digitech TSR-12 effects processor, a microphone, and my sultry voice. I used my (then-new) Power Macintosh 7100/80 with Vision sequencing software, along with my rockin' Tascam 424 four-track and some SMPTE time code.

Synth dorks: I can honestly say that this the only thing for which the 01/Wfd's "Wave Shaping" feature came in handy.

All the actual screaming you hear is me. The disgusting speaking is me too, and I'm saying this:

Hell is paved with priests' skulls.
St. John Chrysostom
De Sacerdotio [c. 390]

I wish I could say that the use of this quote was a product of my fine liberal arts education, but the truth is that you find quotes like that when you look up "hell" in Bartlett's Familiar Quotations.

so let's hear it

This file is a MP3. If you don't know what that is, go to Winamp's web site and follow your nose.

And a final note to maximize your listening pleasure: Turn it on up. Louder = better. A subwoofer helps, too.
