"So, what do you do?"
My mom always wonders how to tell people what I do. If she could just say "policeman" or "newspaper reporter," it would be easy. But no, I'm a computer guy. That makes things complicated.
(Actually, when asked, I usually tell people, "I'm a computer guy." That usually starts up a new topic of conversation; who wants to hear what a computer guy actually does, anyway?)
OCI
In August 2004, I became a "Software Engineer" at Object Computing, Inc., a software engineering and consulting firm in St. Louis. I'm at a client site, doing Java web development. It's been a good experience, one that I'll write more about at some point.
Earlier
In February of 2003, I started at OCI as the systems manager. There are lots of systems to manage at OCI.
Prior to OCI, I was a contract telecommuting programmer/analyst for GE Appliances, which was a great opportunity for me to work with people I really like and learn a lot of new things.
I've done a lot more, but these are the jobs I've had since I've had a web site.
Computer Guy
In general terms, I'm a computer guy. Zoom in one level and I'm a:
- Programmer
- Web developer
- System administrator
- Technology pundit
Zoom in all the way, and you'd see my resume.
