Geocaching - GC3C9 - "Scarab!"
Julie likes geocaching.
It gets me out of the house.
I say things like, "Hey, this weekend, let's go geocaching!"
We decided to have a try at another cache at Laumeier, since it's close and a cool place to go. Lots of things to look at there.
Stopped by Einstein's for couple of bagels on the way. I sure do like that honey almond cream cheese.
It was really cold. Windy. Rip the ears off the side of your head windy.
But we parked and, after a little bundling up, we walked across the big open area in the middle of the park. It's fun to have a wide open area as you're closing in on the cache, because "as the crow flies" is actually possible.
After just a little bit of trail walking and a small, but significant bit of me covering my shoe in nasty sloppy mud, we got to the closest structure to the coordinates and had fun looking around inside it. Some theologian had written "God Loves Stoners" on the inside, which I thought was pretty insightful.
Julie took the GPS and did the "walk away, walk back" trick to get a good read on which direction we needed to go for the remaining 0.02 miles. We headed out into the thin but consistently in-the-way brush.
The notes for the cache said "please be sure to recover with rocks," so it was pretty easy to find once we got there.
I wonder what I'll think about rummaging out in the woods, turning over rock piles and logs when it's summer and all the snakes are awake? Have to consider that a little...
On the way back to the car, we saw lots of dogs. We met two (pale) Yellow Labs who were very friendly, and then two great Boxers, named Ajax and Nike. Ajax was a big tough boy who didn't like the kind of attention that Maggie wanted to give him, but Nike was a sweet litle girl, smaller than Maggie, but lots of fun.
If you ever wonder why they're called "Boxers", put two of them together and wait for 60 seconds. It's funny.
So it turns out that Laumeier is a doggie haven on Saturday morning. If Maggie ever figures out how to do things like "heel" and "come" and "stay", we'll be taking her there a lot, I think.
