Geocaching - GC2FE0 - "The Savage Beast"
After a four month hiatus, we decided it was time for a geocaching outing. I was delighted to discover the many new caches on the "near to your zip code" list at the geocaching.com web site. We had lots of new choices.
The first cache on that list is in Kirkwood City Park, four blocks from our house. We go there with the dogs quite a bit. Since we wanted to make a quick trip of it, we chose that one. We could've walked to the park, but we needed some new batteries for the GPS. So, we made a fast stop at Walgreens before driving out to the park.
The cache is located along a trail that not many people know about; it starts in a quiet section of the park. We'd been on it before, and I always thought it would make a good place for a geocache. Since I haven't been ambitious enough to actually create a geocache of my own, I'm glad someone else had the same idea.
There's a busy section of train track that goes right through Kirkwood's downtown, past the historic train station which was built in 1893. This same train track is about thirty feet from the geocache location, and a train went by while we were there. Maggie, who usually doesn't like loud noises, was surprisingly brave.
I think Julie and I can share the credit for finding this cache. She suggested looking in a certain spot, but the cache wasn't there. However, it was in a very similar spot a few feet away.
We continued down the trail after we logged our visit and placed the cache. We came out of the trees by the road and had a walk through the park on the way back to the car.
Fun!
